Hanover New Hampshire News

The landmark Hanover Inn will close for four months starting in December of 2011 for comprehensive renovations. Dartmouth College is working on a 12 million dollar renovation project to the college owned inn. The anticipated renovations will add 16 additional guest rooms, will remove 29 restaurant seats, 85 outdoor restaurant seats and 47 meeting room seats. The project will add approximately 12,000 sq ft to the Inn. According to Paul Olsen, the director of real estate for the college, “The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of the Hanover Inn in all dimensions.”

The renovation will centralize meeting spaces on the ground floor and lower levels of the Inn. The meeting spaces will include two large function rooms on the first floor and seven new conference rooms on the lower level.

The Inn’s restaurants will also be relocated. Zins, the main restaurant will be relocated to the corner of Main Street and West Wheelock affording improved visibility from the street. There will also be a second restaurant in the space that is currently occupied by Zins.

College offices will be moved elsewhere and new guest rooms will occupy the vacated space. The total number of guest rooms will increase from 93 to 109.

The project received the necessary town approval in the spring. The Planning Board is working with Dartmouth College to address the potential increased demand for parking.

We are all looking forward to seeing the results of this grand project…just in time for graduation in June 2012.
